Monday's tactics against a lame-duck Mexico side left quite a bit to be desired, but we still managed to get 3 points – courtesy of K-Mew in the 89th minute. Those of us who have been watching some pretty good soccer across the pond in the UEFA Women's Euro have been left thinking we're going to need to step it up between now and next July if we want to defend the Cup and get that fifth star.
That work continues July 14 against Costa Rica – but remember, we've still got another tournament to qualify for. If we win tonight, we'll play the winner of Canada-Jamaica on Monday for a spot at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. A loss tonight would send us to Monday's undercard: the third-place match. If we win that, we'll meet the second-place team in a playoff later this year. Win, and we still head to France.
