When you’re the number one team in the world every one’s going to be gunning for you. That’s at least what Ludacris taught me. Today the United States women’s national team were put in the position to prove that they are the best of the best with their World Cup draw against Australia, Sweden, and Nigeria… arguably the toughest of next summer’s tournament. The way the Women’s World Cup draw works is that each of the globe’s top six teams of the 24 participants are seeded and distributed across groups A to F so that none of them will face each other before the knockout stages. The Lady Nats were put in Group D and then their opponents were drew around them. The U.S. drew each of the most difficult teams from each of the other “pots” including Africa’s best team Nigeria, Australia (who have historically given the Nats a tough go) and Sweden (led by former USWNT coach Pia Sundhage and the number five team in the world). While the group stages are the tournament’s toughest… America’s survived other so-called “Groups of Death” before. And getting out on top of this group also means a decent slate of knockout round matchups (if everything plays out accordingly) to the WWC finals. “So… hey American Outlaws…. What do you have planed for next summer?” That’s a great question! With the dates and venues set (see below) we’ve begun our planning for night before and pre-game events for U.S. fans to join in on. We’ll have flight discounts through United Airlines and an AO hotel for fans to book in each city. As for tickets we’re still working with U.S. Soccer, the Canadian Federation, and FIFA to secure a supporters section for American fans. Right now there is not a ticket package to follow a specific team like the men’s World Cup. We strongly encourage AOs wanting to sit with other AOs to hold off purchasing tickets until we can get more details on how to proceed so that we can create the most united and largest U.S. supporters section at each venue.
