US fans waited patiently through Kevin Hart jokes, Wayne Gretzky's attempted pronunciations of small European nations, and Tom Brady struggling to open ping pong balls to find out who our opponents will be in 2026. Their patience was (slowly) rewarded as the USMNT found themselves in a pretty favorable group. Here's a quick look at who the US will face next year:
June 12th, 2026: Paraguay in Inglewood, California The opening game of the World Cup for the USMNT will be a familiar opponent: Paraguay. The US last faced La Albirroja (the white and red) on November 15th, 2025 and came away with a hard fought 2-1 victory in Philly. A member of CONMEBOL, Paraguay finds its way back to the World Cup for the first time since 2010, and no doubt will look to spoil the host's big party.
June 19th, 2026: Australia in Seattle, Washington The USMNT will travel to Seattle for their first game in the Emerald City since 2016. Waiting for them will be the Socceroos; a team we last met in Commerce City, Colorado on October 14th, 2025. That night, Haji Wright powered the US to a 2-1 come from behind win.
June 25th, 2026: Winner of Kosovo/Türkiye/Romania/Slovakia in Inglewood, California The final match of our group stage will be the winner of a European playoff, which will be decided on March 31st, 2026. While the US has not played Kosovo, the Yanks have a history against the three other opponents. The USMNT last faced Romania in the World Cup in 1994 and will be looking to avenge a 0-1 loss. The last outing against Slovakia was on November 14th, 2009 which was a 1-0 win for the US. Most recently, the USMNT squared off against Türkiye (likely the favorites to win this playoff) on June 7th, 2025 in Hartford, Connecticut which saw Türkiye come from behind to win 2-1. 595262804_1336809401819784_484875933511850849_n.jpg646 KB
