Carlos Bocanegra
The end of the 2014 MLS Season also sees the end of the playing career of Carlos Bocanegra. ‘Los has been the captain of the USMNT since Claudio Reyna’s retirement in 2006 until his national team career came to an end during qualifying in 2013. Bocanegra has been a staple at the center back position, and one of Bob Bradley and Jurgen Klinsmann’s most reliable servants over the past 7 years.
He made his national team debut in 2001, and featured regularly for over a decade. His most unforgettable appearances were surely those in the 2009 Confederations Cup and the 2010 World Cup, where the US put together some of the most memorable performances in their history. His ability to defend and attack in the air will be sorely missed by US fans everywhere.
Carlos deserves a great deal of credit and admiration for his performances and commitment to our team. He always wore the badge with an unparalleled sense of pride, and the numbers speak for themselves. Boca finishes with 110 caps for the Yanks, which is 7th all team in US Men’s National Team history. His 14 goals also are the most by any defender.
There are not adequate words that will get the point across, but we would love to thank Carlos for his amazing career representing our country. Best of luck to you in the future in your family and professional life, but you will be missed on the field. We hope you join us in the stands someday.
We love ya.
P.S.
You are one damn handsome man.
