The American Outlaws, the largest unofficial United States national team supporter group, is releasing an exclusive piece of artwork in honor our national teams’ players and fans for Hispanic Heritage Month. American Outlaws, along with Latinos for Team USA, worked with artist Steve Alfaro, a member of our Washington D.C. chapter, to commission the piece, “El Equipo de Todos”.

This Hispanic Heritage Month piece celebrates the contributions of American Latinos to U.S. Soccer. I decided to focus on the soccer field where these contributions are made and where we as fans unite to watch them be made. The sun represents the energy that is produced on the field. The copy “El Equipo de Todos” is something that Univision coined a couple years ago; it means everyone’s team and it still resonates with a lot of fans today. “Unite & Strengthen” is American Outlaws tagline which I think fits perfectly for this piece. Our national teams are a mirror held up to the country itself; increasingly diverse with people of many varied backgrounds and experiences contributing to one, united cause. It is in the spirit of that diversity, and, specifically our Hispanic players and fans, that we dedicate Alfaro’s work to them. From the days of denim and such players as Hugo Perez, Fernando Clavijo, and Tab Ramos to Michael Orozco Fiscal’s goal to propel the USMNT to their first victory at Azteca in August 2012 to the contributions of Hispanic players in the most recent World Cup qualification campaign and Brazil 2014 tournament dozens of players in between have left their mark in the hearts and minds of millions. We’d be remiss if we didn’t also honor the efforts of our Hispanic members of the American Outlaws who join us all in song and support in the stands. There is nothing more central to our mission to “Unite and Strengthen” the fan base of American soccer than the inclusion of everyone where red, white, and blue is the only criteria for support.
