AO Talking points 12/11

We’ve got lots to chat about this week. From a World Cup winner joining the race for President to a familiar name making his first-team debut in Germany. Let’s get to talking!

As the deadline nears to finalize the nomination process for the USSF Presidential election, the field is still expanding. WNT Goalkeeper Hope Solo entered the race last week, penning an essay on her inspiration on her Facebook page.

Candidates have until Tuesday night to submit their required paperwork to become an official candidate. We’ll know after that who is officially in and out of the race and begin our forums with individual candidates, so stay tuned!

Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore moved past their national team woes to help Toronto FC to their first MLS Cup title on Saturday, taking down Seattle 2-0. Jozy slotted home the winner with a cool finish. Check it out below.

U-20 goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann (yep, that Klinsmann) made his senior team debut for Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin in the Europa League. Not satisfied with just a regular debut, the 20-year-old saved a penalty to hold Östersunds FK to a draw.

With the January camp fast approaching, there’s never been a more appropriate time for some new faces and new chances. Sports Illustrated took a stab at who will be called up for the Yanks game against Bosnia & Herzegovina on 1/28 in LA. (PS, grab your tickets to sit with us at that game here).

The World Cup title defense begins in 2018. Let’s kick it off with a bang in San Diego on 1/21 when the team takes on Denmark! Grab your tickets here.

Youth

The U20 women wrapped up the Nike Friendlies Monday night with a 2-0 loss to Brazil, allowing England to swoop in for 1st place at the tournament. But the games didn't go without their highlights - check out Civana Kuhlmann put four past Finland in a 10-1 win on Saturday! Thanks to all the chapters throughout the South East who made noise for the boys and girls these past few weeks!
