THE HYPE - Finish The Job

The boys came through in style, beating Panama 4-0 in front of a rowdy Orlando crown on Friday night. The USMNT were lethal and ruthless in throughout the ninety minutes, giving very few chances to the away side that had no answer to Bruce Arena’s high tempo gameplan. The attacking trio of Jozy Altidore, Bobby Wood, and Christian Pulisic were a handful for the visitors, scoring all four goals and were unlucky to grab a few more. Matt Besler & Omar Gonzalez were solid for the most part other than a few shaky moments. Yedlin and Villafana were outstanding throughout the match. Darlington Nagbe was very influential early on but faded late in the match. Arriola created numerous chances and should’ve gotten a goal for himself. Pulisic pulled a Pulisic. The result puts the USMNT right back where they want to be, in full control of their World Cup destiny. A win and we’re #in. A draw and we’re essentially #in. A loss and we don’t deserve to go to the World Cup, but we would automatically qualify if both Honduras & Panama tie or lose. The play-in game would be in our future if Panama OR honduras win, and the other does not. Tuesday night’s opponent will be an altogether different beast. The hosts have been dismal throughout the Hexagonal and will be looking for nothing more than pride. T&T have only one win accompanied by eight losses, and have been out of qualifying contention since match day six. They would like nothing other than to beat the USMNT, and restore some faith in a struggling program. This week’s rain has been unkind to the Ato Boldon field, even causing the USMNT to have to navigate flood waters just to train on Monday. No excuses, we must have three points.
