THE HYPE

After dispatching the biters and pinchers of El Salvador the USMNT finds themselves just 90 minutes from a trip to the Gold Cup Final that eluded them in 2015. The red, white and blue face a familiar foe in the, er, red, white and blue of Costa Rica.  A pair of defenders were our saviors on Wednesday night with Omar Gonzalez heading home his second goal of the tournament and Eric Lichaj megging the keeper for his first international goal (that turn and pass from Dempsey, tho!).  Los Ticos have been a frustrating side for the the U.S. In 35 matches they are the only team in CONCACAF other than Mexico to hold a winning record against us (15-14-6). But in Gold Cup play the USMNT has flexed their muscles with a 6-0-1 advantage. Bruce Arena 1.0 led the Nats to a 2-0 in 2002 Gold Cup Final over Costa Rica.  Once again the backline of the U.S. was shaky, but Tim Howard was sturdy as can be between the sticks. The margin of error against the likes of Costa Rica is going to be a lot more narrow so mistakes can't be made.  The U.S. has shown that they can get goals from a variety of players and situations giving the attacking edge that is much needed.  What tricks does Bruce 2.0 have up his sleeve tonight? Definitely no chance for snow with temps hitting the 100s in Texas today. Time to #UniteAndHydrate.  USMNT Roster (Club; Caps/Goals): GOALKEEPERS (3): Jesse Gonzalez (FC Dallas; 0/0), Bill Hamid (D.C.
