USMNT vs. El Salvador
Date: Wednesday, July 19th, 2017 Location: Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia, PA) Time: 9pm ET TV: FS1, UniMas, UDN Watch with your #AOFamily at one of our 193 chapter locations. THE HYPE The USMNT finished off the group stages with three goals and three points; enough to vault them to the top of Group B over Panama. The win means that the Nats will face El Salvador tonight in Philadelphia in the Gold Cup Quarterfinals with a trip to Dallas (Arlington) on the line. PK shanks aside there were several positives to take away from the last performance, including a clean sheet and getting some solid contributions in two goals from “Standford Messi” Jordan Morris. Our Nats have never lost domestically to El Salvador (and only once overall in 22 years). In a good omen, the two times we’ve beaten Los Cuscatlecos in the GCQFs we’ve gone on to lift the tournament’s trophy. So we’re all good! Bruce Arena, per Gold Cup rules, was able to make six changes to the roster and brought in a heavy veteran presence with Tim Howard, Michael Bradley, Jozy Alitidore, Clint Dempsey, Darlington Nagbe, and newly minted GK Jesse Gonzalez. They replaced Brad Guzan, Sean Johnson, Dom Dwyer, Kellyn Rowe, Cristian Roldan, and Alejandro Bedoya. If you’re looking to put into perspective this Gold Cup campaign vs. the last one look no further than ESPN’s Paul Carr with this gem: Into the breach we go. It’s knockout round time. The USMNT needs to win this edition of the Gold Cup to erase the bad juju from the last tournament which saw them crash out of the semifinals and then lose in PKs in the third place match. Bruce Arena has the MNT off to a solid (6-0-5) start equaling the best unbeaten start for a national team coach since Bob Bradley (10-0-1) in 2007. Good starts are good. #Logic. But the key is the finish. One mission: #WeWantTheCupBack USMNT Roster (Club; Caps/Goals): GOALKEEPERS (3): Jesse Gonzalez (FC Dallas; 0/0), Bill Hamid (D.C. For FIFA sanctioned matches it’s not allowed and we can get in big trouble. There are many avenues to supporting our national team and not all of them require incendiary devices.
