THE HYPE

The USMNT are back in uniform after a positive couple of months in WCQ qualifying, this time around in preparation of the 2017 Gold Cup. The boys were valiant in their 1-1 draw in Mexico City last month and fully deserved their point in the belly of the beast. Though there is little time to celebrate as the focus quickly transitions into Gold Cup. Ghana are passing through Hartford and looking to avenge their 2014 World Cup loss to the US in a friendly before our Nats head to Nashville to kick off the Gold Cup against Panama on the 8th. Who could forget Clint Dempsey scoring in the 1st minute in Natal, followed by Johny Brooks’ late winner? The Ghanaians will be sick at the sight of Graham Zusi whipping in corners at the Rent on Saturday. Ghana names a strong squad to face the U.S. Asamoah Gyan, Nicholas Opoku and David Accam headline the Black Stars very talented and athletic roster. But, head coach James Kwesi Appiah has stated that the #WeGhanaWin hashtag was too much to overcome in Brazil, and will be searching for his meds after seeing the infamous hashtag reappear on social media. Bruce has unsurprisingly named a largely MLS based roster for this summer’s competition, with a few new faces. Cristian Roldan, Kelyn Rowe, Dom Dwyer, and Kenny Saief will be looking to earn their first caps in a U.S. jersey over the next month, and it will be interesting to see how BA utilizes their abilities in the team going forward. Here are the full rosters: USMNT GK: Brad Guzan, Bill Hamid, Sean Johnson DEF: Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, Matt Hedges, Eric Lichaj, Matt Miazga, Justin Morrow, Jorge Villafaña, Graham Zusi MID: Paul Arriola, Alejandro Bedoya, Joe Corona, Dax McCarty, Cristian Roldan, Kelyn Rowe, Kenny Saief, Gyasi Zardes FOR: Juan Agudelo, Dom Dwyer, Jordan Morris Ghana GK: Joseph Addo (Aduana Stars; 0/0), Richard Ofori (Wa All Stars; 4/0) DEF: Harrison Afful (Columbus Crew SC/USA; 78/0), Lumor Agbenyenu (1860 Munich/GER; 1/0), Jerry Akaminko (Eskiserhispor/TUR; 11/1), John Boye (Sivasspor/TUR; 60/4), Jonathan Mensah (Columbus Crew SC/USA; 58/1), Nicholas Opoku (Berekum Chelsea; 0/0), Samuel Sarfo (Liberty Professionals; 0/0), Rashid Sumalia (Al Gharafa/QAT; 8/0), MID: Mohammed Abu (Columbus Crew SC/USA; 5/0), Frank Acheampong (Anderlecht/BEL; 19/2), Thomas Agyepong (NAC Breda/NED; 1/0), Winful Cobbinah (Hearts of Oak; 0/0), Ofori Ebenezer (Stuttgart/GER; 1/0), Gershon Koffie (New England Revolution 0/0), Kwadwo Poku (Miami FC/USA; 1/0), Isaac Sackey (Alanyaspor/TUR; 1/0) FOR: David Accam (Chicago Fire/USA; 8/1), Raphael Dwamena (FC Zurich/SUI; 1/0), Asamoah Gyan (Al-Alhi/UAE; 102/49), Majeed Waris (Lorient/FRA; 27/4) So, this warmup will include some Bruce tinkering and experimenting before next week’s GC kickoff.
