Pre-Game Hype: USMNT at Mexico

The Basics

USMNT at Mexico Date: Sunday, June 11, 2017 Location: Estadio Azteca (Mexico City, Mexico) Time: 8:30pm ET TV: FS1, Univision, UDN Watch with your #AOFamily at one of our 193 chapter bars! The USMNT #slides into Mexico City with a few things on the brain. An overall descent showing in Denver has put the US right back into the hunt for automatic qualification for the 2017 World Cup in Russia. The US was lucky not to concede on several occasions after some shaky moments at the back, but Christian Pulisic went into #PulisicMode and showed us his class.

THE HYPE

It’s the big one. The rivalry of all rivalries. The game every US fan pencils in the calendar when the #hex gets announced.
  • A Pulisic to zero win gives the USMNT 7 points from 5 games and positions themselves in 3rd place of CONCACAF Qualifying
  • The USMNT have only once beaten Mexico at the Azteca which was courtesy of Michael Orozco in 2011, and have never taken 3 points in World Cup Qualifying
  • Pulisic does what he wants
Bruce Arena will have some tidying up to do heading into Sunday’s match, as Mexico will be an altogether different opponent when they line up at home. The Mexicans sit comfortably atop the group with 13 points from 5 games and have surely already booked their ticket to Russia after some impressive results thus far. Eh. But make no mistake, we want to grab 3 points from this match. Everyone remembers the grit that the boys showed in 2013 (the year we doubled Mexico’s qualifying total and gifted them qualification) in earning that valuable point at the Azteca in the corresponding fixture. Tim Howard, amongst others, was heroic that night. Who will write their name in the books this time around? MID: Kellyn Acosta, Paul Arriola, Alejandro Bedoya, Michael Bradley, Fabian Johnson, Dax McCarty, Darlington Nagbe, Christian Pulisic FOR: Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Jordan Morris, Bobby Wood See the #squad below: GK: Brad Guzan, Ethan Horvath, Tim Howard, Nick Rimando DEF: DaMarcus Beasley, Matt Besler, John Brooks, Geoff Cameron, Omar Gonzalez, Matt Hedges, Tim Ream, Jorge Villafaña, DeAndre Yedlin, Graham Zusi Yes, it’s that rivalry that brings out the most passion of any match. How you express that passion is what defines you as an Outlaw (see AO code of conduct). Simply put, don’t be that idiot. We welcome any and everybody who loves the USMNT. Get to your local watch parties here! www.theamericanoutlaws.com/chapters Huge props to those hundreds of AO’s who traveled to Mexico City to support our boys! We hope you left some room for 3 points in your bags! We love ya, AO
