Olympics Hype: Nothing's Given
After winning their third Women’s World Cup last summer our USWNT will attempt to do what no other world champion has ever done… follow up their Cup with an Olympic gold medal. While the WNT has won the women’s tournament during the summer games FOUR TIMES they’ve never done it following a WWC win (they took silver Sydney in 2000, following the 1999 win). So “Nothing’s Given” and everything to play for.
While the squad has undergone some pretty large changes (big ups to Abby Wambach, Shannon Boxx, Lori Chalupny,, Lauren Cheney (Holiday) it has been buffered by the additions of the next generation of WNT stars like 2015 NWSL leading scorer Crystal Dunn, Portland Thorns Lindsay Horan and Allie Long, plus teen phenom Mal #PughPughPugh.
Like we did last summer and all throughout their Victory Tournament, Olympic qualifying, and send-offs let’s come together for the most dominate soccer squad the world has ever seen. #WNTRunTheWorld after all and, geographically-speaking Brazil is on the Earth… so draw your own conclusions as Carli Lloyd and company prepare to run Rio as well.
