The Hype
Hey remember the haters? Remember how we were in the "Group of Death" (again) and were going to bomb out of Copa? Remember a spirited loss to Colombia when obituaries were already being written about our USMNT?
Good times, huh?
But we're ALIVE and finished FIRST IN THE GROUP (thanks Ticos!) and we're in Seattle ready to rumble against Ecuador. Less than a month ago we warmed up for Copa against La Tricolor, a 1-0 result. Darlington Nagbe snagged the late winner, but tonight's test will be much sterner.
Jurgen Klinsmann will need to preach patience from the Nats as SEVEN players sit on yellow cards. One more for Michael Orozco, John Brooks, Fabian Johnson, Michael Bradley, Bobby Wood, Jermaine Jones and Alejandro Bedoya and anyone of them is out of a potential semi-final date in Houston. Klinsmann already has to replace defender DeAndre Yedlin after collecting two quick yellows in succession last Saturday.
The U.S. has been relying heavily on a strong backline led by Brooks (happy #WeGhanaWin anniversary!) and Geoff Cameron and anchored by Brad Guzan between the pipes.
It's been the veteran presence of Bradley, Jones, and Clint Dempsey that is the offensive engine of this side during Copa. Jurgen has been reluctant to use youngsters Nagbe and Chrisian Pulisic, but if the going gets touch don't be surprised to see a spark from the bench.
It's do or die. It's win or go home. Brazil is out, but we're still here. We're hosts. This is our land.
Why can't we win it all?
XOXO,
AO
