Pre-Game Hype: USMNT vs. Peru
USMNT v Peru Date: September 4th, 2015 Time: 7:00pm ET Location: RFK Stadium – Washington, D.C. TV: Fox Sports 1 Watch with your #AOFamily at one of our 178 chapter locations. The Hype The USMNT will take on Copa America semi-finalists Peru on Friday in D.C. in a preparation for the CONCACAF playoff game against Mexico next month. The Peruvians were one of the surprises of last summer’s tournament, playing some great ball in Chile and were unlucky not to advance to the finals. On the other side of the coin, the USMNT is coming off a very disappointing fourth place finish in last summer’s Gold Cup. Jurgen Klinsmann will be looking for some momentum heading into the Rose Bowl, and this is our shot to do it. Some fantastic results in Europe this spring do seem long ago, but we know what JK & Co are capable of. We can get three wins from the next three games and then look forward Russia in 2017. That’s what we want. Here is the squad to face Peru: GK: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), William Yarbrough (Club Leon) DEF: Ventura Alvarado (Club America), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Greg Garza (Atlas), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Michael Orozco (Club Tijuana), Tim Ream (Fulham), Jonathan Spector (Birmingham City) MID: Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Joe Corona (Veracruz), Mix Diskerud (New York City FC), Jermaine Jones (New England Revolution), Alfredo Morales (FC Ingolstadt), Danny Williams (Reading), DeAndre Yedlin (Sunderland) FOR: Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC), Aron Johannsson (Werder Bremen), Bobby Wood (Union Berlin), Andrew Wooten (SV Sandhausen), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy) Nice to see Matt Besler back in the team after a long absence since the World Cup. You have to wonder if Klinsmann is eyeing an MB & OG center-back pairing that played so well against Mexico at the Azteca in 2009. Been a few moons since Jonathan Spector pulled on a U.S. kit. One thing is for sure, his hair will look handsome. Some familiar names are back in the team for these important games. JJ is back from injury and listed as a midfielder… many US fans are grateful the CB experiment is over…. Danny Williams played well alongside Bedoya in his return. Yedlin also listed as a MF as sealing his loan to Sunderland this week. Hopefully this leads to some must-needed 1st team action for the young man. Bobby Wood was pretty #clutch in those famous Euro wins, and it will be interesting to see who starts up top between BW, AJ, Zardes and Altidore whom are all playing well for their clubs. Here are the events for the tailgate! Let’s fill up RFK with our voices. They must know that we are behind them in these matches. At the end of the day, these games are just build-up for the big one against our noisy neighbors. The boys will need some AO love in the stands to give them any shot of home field advantage in Pasadena. We must #FillTheBowl. Let’s hold hands and sing. We love you, AO Family.
