The Hype
With a game to spare the United States men's soccer team will top their group in the opening round of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Tonight they'll face Panama who need a win to keep their knockout round hopes alive.
With passage to the next round assured expect some lineup tinkering from Jurgen Klinsmann. Oh, wait... always expect some of that from JK.
So far the USMNT's play in this year's edition of the Gold Cup has been underwhelming. A lot of U.S. fans are wondering what happened to the team that bested the Netherlands and Germany last month.
For the those not used to observing matches against CONCACAF...a friendly reminder... these games are garbage ball. Despite the U.S being clearly superior to many of their early opponents bunker ball defense and hack-a-thons rule the day. You're not watching soccer; you're watching a bank heist. Smash and grab is what to expect.
Survival of the fittest rules in the day in the Gold Cup and this region's World Cup qualifying. Get used to seeing a lot more of it. as the question for the World Cup in 2018 begins anew.
As we've seen in previous grinding Gold Cup it's not the start, but the finish that counts. If you remember #TheCupIsOurs and we've got the side to keep it in 2015.
