The Hype
The United States kicked off their 2015 Gold Cup campaign with a 2-1 win over Honduras in Frisco. Clint Dempsey marked his return to the national team with two instinctual goals to give the United States three huge points. Was is 90 minutes of perfection? Probably not. But Jurgen Klinsmann and company got the win and are in position to advance into the quarterfinal with a win over Haiti today. The U.S. currently sits atop group A with three points. Haiti drew with Panama in their GC opener on Tuesday, so points are required if the Haitians want a realistic chance of advancing into the knockout round themselves. Only three points will do for Jurgen and company, with increasing expectations for his team being given after some excellent results over the last months. It is certainly a sign of the times…. win every game or else. That’s the way we like it.
