The Hype
“I think the biggest part that we’re hoping to get from this summer’s Gold Cup, because it’s a crucial competition because it qualifies us for the Confederations Cup in Russia, is our fans. We need our fans to be behind us. We need the American Outlaws to be organizing in every venue that we go to and we want to show to everybody throughout the country that we have the most amazing fans in the world.
We need their support a lot, and the players feel really privileged to see them there and see them behind the goal, especially when things are not working the way you want them to work and in a tournament like the Gold Cup that is always full of surprises. Hopefully we’ll have thousands and thousands of our fans in the stadium giving us that support.” - Jurgen Klinsmann
No doubt JK! The the #AOFamily will be behind this team every step of the way through the Gold Cup this summer!
Four days ago the USMNT dispatched Guatemala in their GC warmup. The defense was a bit shaky, particularly in the first half, but the offense woke up and took care of business.
This Gold Cup roster is a mix of World Cup veterans and a few fringe players that will be looking to make a statement this summer, and their best case to be included in Jurgen’s World Cup qualifying campaign that begins in November (Already!?!?!!?), and a few players who might be on their swam song, but still productive. members of the squad.
Of course the marquee Final match up in Philly would be versus Mexico, but we don’t really care if they hold up their end of the bargain.
It all starts tonight in Frisco, Texas as the United States men’s national team begins their title defense against Honduras. Win the whole thing and it’s not just continental bragging rights; its a ticket to the 2017 Confederations Cup.
Honduras is a wildly inconsistent opponent giving the U.S. fits sometimes and rolling over other times. This squad was the last team to qualify for the tournament so grabbing a victory tonight will be the first punch on their ticket home.
The women’s national team carried the nation’s soccer banner for the last month and now it’s time for the men to pick up and carry it forward to July 26th.
Time to #KeepTheCup!
