The Hype
What a week it has been for United States National teams…. The MNT defeats Holland away 4-3 in the last minute, the USWNT beats Australia 3-1 in the WWC, U-23 MNT beats England and takes 3rd place in the Toulon Tournament, and the U-20 MNT qualify for the round of 16 in the WC. Unbelievable!
In case you’ve been spending your time underneath some sort of giant boulder and haven’t seen the highlights, the USMNT looked down and out after conceding two goals early in the second half against the Dutch on Monday. But Jurgen Klinsmann had something up his sleeve in the form of substitutions, and urged his men to carry on and keep playing. They certainly took his advice by scoring 3 goals in the last 20 minutes to get their first ever win against the Dutch. John Brooks, Danny Williams, and Bobby Wood all took their chances splendidly to give the mighty yanks a historic win. To be fair, there was some crap defending on both sides. But we freaking love the W. Boo-ya.
Now on to the Germany, where JK returns to the country in which he made his name as a player and manager. He won the World Cup as a player in 1990, and then led his 2006 German team to the WC semi-final as a coach. Many sub-plots surrounding this one aside from Klinsmann, with many USMNT players having strong German heritage, not to mention the history on the field between these two teams. After being blatantly robbed in the 2002 World Cup, many United States fans still feel like we have a score to settle each time we line up. Beating them 4-3 in 2012 felt good, but losing last summer 1-0 still felt like a win as we qualified for the round of 16.

MID: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Mix Diskerud (New York City FC), Miguel Ibarra (Minnesota United FC), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt), Danny Williams (Reading)

Guzan was pretty damn solid despite giving up 3 goals. Brooks looked shaky at times but made up for it. Timmy Chandler left a bit to be desired at right back, it will be interesting to see if JK sticks with him or gives Yedlin a start shot. Mikey Bradley had another incredible performance and is getting close to being back at his best. Good on Danny Williams for getting his first goal in the US jersey, albeit with a hefty deflection. The man deserves it. A.J. was isolated but showed signs of why Messi has repeatedly been quoted as having his posters all over his room. Zardes also got his first goal on Friday, and will look to build his growing reputation on that.

Loads of quality here, but the Germans would never have the class to score four goals against Holland away even if they had Johannsson. So, we’re clearly the superior side and should
be considered heavy favorites
