Pre-Game Hype: USMNT vs. Netherlands
USMNT v Netherlands Date: June 5th, 2015 Time: 2:30 PM ET Location: Amsterdam Arena, Amsterdam TV: ESPN, WatchESPN, UniMas, UDN Find your local AO chapter! The boys are back! Seems as though it’s been ages since we beat Mexico again (guess the score) in San Antonio in April… but truth is, it’s only been 50 days. But as they say, time flies when you’re on top. Another HUGE summer for U.S. Soccer for all the teams. Men, women, and youth teams all have massive tournaments. For the men, our focus is primarily on the Gold Cup after a couple friendlies against Holland, Germany, and finally Guatemala. First, we #concentrate on the Dutch. The men in Orange finished third in the World Cup last summer, after some impressive wins against Spain and Brazil. You could spend hours listing their achievements and players, but the bottom line is this: they’re damn good. But there is no need to fret, AO…. We’ve got Aron freaking #Johannnsson. Baby AJ has been electric for AZ lately, and will surely feature up top in Jozy’s absence (☹) after he picked up a hamstring injury playing for Toronto. Here’s the full roster: GK: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), William Yarbrough (Club Leon) DEF: Ventura Alvarado (Club America), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Michael Orozco (Puebla), Brek Shea (Orlando City SC), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur) MID: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Mix Diskerud (New York City FC), Miguel Ibarra (Minnesota United FC), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt), Danny Williams (Reading) FOR: Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Bobby Wood (1860 Munich), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy) Klinsy has stated that Guzan is #1 in Timmy’s absence. Same back-line we’ve seen in the last couple of friendlies, though not a ton of experience. Bradley looked good against Mexico, and it will be interesting to see his link up with Danny Williams again(presumably) against a tough Dutch mid-field. Agudelo has looked good for club and country, and will likely get at least a cameo on Friday. Here’s the Netherlands roster: GK: Jasper Cillessen (FC Groningen); Tim Krul (Newcastle United); Kenneth Vermeer (Feyenoord) DEF: Jeffrey Bruma (PSV); Jordy Clasie (Feyenoord); Daryl Janmaat (Newcastle United); Bruno Martins Indi (FC Porto); Karim Rekik (PSV); Joël Veltman (Ajax); Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa); Stefan de Vrij (Lazio); Gregory van der Wiel (Paris Saint-Germain); Jetro Willems (PSV) MID: Daley Blind (Manchester United); Tjaronn Chery (FC Groningen); Quincy Promes (Spartak Moskou); Davy Pröpper (Vitesse); Wesley Sneijder (Galatasaray); Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV) FOR: Steven Berghus (AZ Alkmaar); Memphis Depay (PSV); Bas Dost (Wolfsburg); Klass Jan Huntelaar (Schalke 04); Luuk de Jong (PSV); Jeremain Lens (Dynamo Kiev); Luciano Narsingh (PSV); Robin van Persie (Manchester United) No doubt, some talent on both sides of the ball. Most flair seems to lie in the US camp, it must be said(non-biased literature). Last time we faced Holland in the lead up to 2010 World Cup, it ended in a 2-1 defeat and a Stu Holden broken leg. Nigel De Jong isn’t in this team and has eaten a few cheeseburgers since the last match, but we won’t forget they anguish they’ve caused… But this game is about winning. We will be out to do just that. Time to focus. The summer will be crazy. The men, women, and young-ins need our support. And they will get it. Those not lucky enough to be at the matches, get to your local watch party and start singing NOW. www.theamericanoutlaws.com/chapters. We freaking love you and your amazing vocal chords. Sometimes we have so much to say, we cannot say it. Sometimes it’s best we do not say goodbyes. XOXO, AO
