US v Denmark

  The USMNT begins their preparation for the 2015 Gold Cup against Denmark on Wednesday night.  A couple mixed results in the January camp including a 3-2 defeat in Chile, followed by a 2-0 win in LA against Panama will give the boys a lift heading into Wednesday night’s game.  The US certainly looked vulnerable with the 3-5-2 at times, but it was also nice to see some new faces going forward.   Here’s the roster: GK: Cody Cropper  (Southampton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), William Yarbrough (Club Leon) DEF: Ventura Alvarado (Club America), John  Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Greg Garza (Club Tijuana), Michael Orozco (Puebla), Tim Ream (Bolton Wanderers), Brek Shea (Orlando City SC), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur) MID: Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley  (Toronto FC), Julian Green (Hamburg), Miguel Ibarra (Minnesota United FC), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt), Danny Williams (Reading), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy) FOR: Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC), Aron Johannsson  (AZ Alkmaar), Rubio Rubin (Utrecht)

 

Another mix  of experience and promise in this team named by Klinsmann.  Cody Cropper & William Yarbrough will be looking to secure their first caps with the national team, alongside Nick Rimando.  Johnny Brooks has been excellent overall for Hertha Berlin in the past months and will look to claim his CB role with the absence of Jermaine Jones.  Tim Ream has also been playing well for Bolton and many would love to see him given a shot in the back or defensive MF.  Nice to see Danny Williams back after a long injury layoff.  Baby AJ and Rubio Rubin will both be looking for some substantial PT alongside Jozy on Wednesday, with the late injury to Clint Dempsey in training. 

 

Denmark currently leads their Euro 2016 Qualifying group which includes Portugal and Serbia, so this should be tough match for Jurgen Klinsmann & Co.  The US is 1-2-3 against Denmark all time, with the latest meeting in 2009 ending in a 3-1 defeat.  But that will change Wednesday.
